The dice board game of Perudo has been played for many centuries in Spanish speaking countries since around the fifteenth century. Its origins are believed to come from the ancient Incas, and the game itself is still exceptionally popular in Bolivia, Chile and especially Peru, whose capital city Lima was believed to be the scene of the first games and is steeped in the stages of Perudo history.
Brought to Spain by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro during the 16th century, Perudo, also know as Liar’s dice, and is also closely connected to another ancient South American dice game called Liari. Both these games are based on the same principal where opposing players openly and brazenly lie to each other or bluff about the strength of the dice that they hold in their cups.
Perudo, like most other ancient games, has many variations. Santaba is a slightly more complex version of the game, with the word literary meaning “without truth in your pocket”. Based on a watered down version of the original rules, Perudo developed as a less complicated version of Santaba enjoying tremendous popularity because of its fast pace and combination of skill and bluffing ability.
The birth of online casino and internet gaming has seen Perudo become a very popular game for online players who may enjoy other games such as online poker. Software simulation, available free from Perudo web sites, has allowed new players to come to grips with the complexities of the game, allowing players to compete online against up to six online opponents.
Perudo history goes back almost five centuries and has seen the game evolve from the ancient city of Peru, and being brought to Spain. From there within the last few years it has transcended to the World Wide Web, and to being one of the favorite online games of millions. The stages of Perudo history have taken it long way from Lima, Peru.
